1899

Puzzle box Due in part to Yellowjackets and Severance, television series saw a significant revival in 2022. 1899 is Netflix's response to the trend. 1899, another Netflix series from the creators of Dark, begins as a ghost ship narrative before gradually becoming into something more wilder and more intricate. It's difficult to discuss much about what happens to the global crew without revealing spoilers, but suffice it to say that the programme throws a lot of secrets and storylines at you, and it's not until the last episode that everything becomes clear. However, it is the kind of show in which you need pay great attention; everything from the clothes to the stage design provides hints as to what's actually going on.

Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities

Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water, Pan's Labyrinth) has assembled a horrifying anthology of hour-long episodes from some of the most innovative horror filmmakers with Cabinet of Curiosities. Cube director Vincenzo Natali has a rat-centric comedy, Mandy director Panos Cosmatos has a surreal science fiction narrative, and Ana Lily Amirpour has a short on the evils of cosmetics (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night). As this is a compilation edited by del Toro, there are also a few Lovecraft adaptations. What's most striking about the anthology, though, is how it's both remarkably consistent (there isn't a dud among the eight episodes) and tremendously diverse, demonstrating how many various ways there are to tell a terrifying narrative.

Love, Death, and Robots

Love, Death & Robots is a collection of bizarre and gory animated science fiction shorts, and the third season from this year is possibly the greatest to far. It has a horrifying narrative about sailing alien seas by David Fincher, a disturbing story about a siren pursuing a deaf soldier by Alberto Mielgo, and my personal favourite, a Moebius-inspired fever dream titled "The Very Pulse of the Machine" by filmmaker Emily Dean. And in an era of hour-long prestige dramas, it's nice to binge a series where each episode is under 20 minutes long and manages to cram a lot into such brief runtimes.

Russian Doll

The second season of Russian Doll will have a difficult act to follow. It placed a unique twist on the Groundhog Day formula, as Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) routinely died on her fortieth birthday until she joined up with Alan (Charlie Barnett) to work things out. A few years later, Season 2 replaces the loop with a time travel tale in which riding the MTA may really transport you back in time. The second season takes a little longer to get going, but once it does, it is just as intriguing as the first, without the need to hear "happy birthday baby" every 15 minutes.

All of us are dead

Before seeing All of Us Are Dead, I believed I was weary of zombie-themed television. The Korean series invigorates the genre by combining typical high school drama with zombie horror. The programme depicts a group of kids who are stuck at their school with flesh-eating classmates after an epidemic. This means that throughout all of the heart-pounding escapes and heartbreaking deaths, there is still a growing adolescent romance, strife between the jocks and nerds, and even some comedy to lighten the mood. It's a combination that works so effectively that it makes All of Us Are Dead the kind of TV that you can't help but watch - you have to know what happens next.Top 10 Great Shows on Netfilx in 2022 is not yet completed, see the rest of the titles.

Glass Onion- A Knives-Out Mystery

Netflix placed a large wager when it acquired the Knives Out sequels, and at least initially, it seems to have paid off. Glass Onion is the kind of sequel in which everything gets magnified, from the ensemble cast to the mystery itself. Daniel Craig reprises his problematic Southern accent as investigator Benoit Blanc, and this time he is invited to a murder mystery dinner held by Edward Norton's tech millionaire character. Eventually, the false murder party becomes deadly, and watching Blanc unravel the mystery as the pieces fall into place is really rewarding. Importantly, it's also a lot of fun, with fantastic writing and running gags that pay off in the end.

The House

The House may seem to be a lovely and fluffy stop-motion film, but it is really considerably darker. The video is divided into three storylines, each of which recounts a separate story of a particular home and the people (and animals) that resided there throughout time. You begin with its construction, then transition to its refurbishment decades later, and then to a future when climate change has allegedly ravaged the planet. It's not precisely a horror film — there are no creepy creatures or jump scares — but The House has an unpleasant undertone, which makes its cutesy look all the more deceptive.

Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio

The year has been wonderful for Del Toro on Netflix. In addition to his horror anthology, he also directed a stop-motion Pinocchio musical. As expected, there are no similarities to the Disney classic. This rendition of Pinocchio is more like a family-friendly adaptation of Pan's Labyrinth, combining infantile enchantment, devastating drama, and a threatening background of increasing fascism. (Mussolini himself makes an appearance.) It also looks great, with a universe that seems to have been carved from wood by a skilled artisan, and an entirely original interpretation of the title character.

Wendell & Wild

The last film by filmmaker Henry Selick to be released was Coraline in 2009, and his most recent film already seems like an instant classic. For Wendell & Wild, he collaborated with Jordan Peele (Nope) for another dark stop-motion story, this time about a young girl with exceptional abilities who strikes a pact with two devil brothers. It is a narrative about pain and loss (common topics for Selick) that also criticises the prison industrial complex. Therefore, there is something for everyone.

Thermae Romae Novae

The most memorable was perhaps Thermae Romae Novae, a time-travel comedy about a Roman architect who is infatuated with bathing. In each episode, the architect Lucius has a design dilemma, but is suddenly magically transferred to modern-day Japan, where he is inspired by our future bathing technology and creates something new in the past. The creator of the original comic on which the programme is based, Mari Yamazaki, visits a Japanese hot spring or public bath at the conclusion of each episode to study the history and culture of bathing.

The Trolling Culture: A Digital Plague on Society

The advent of social media has brought revolutionary changes in communication, enabling people to connect and share ideas globally. However, it has also given rise to a darker trend: trolling. Trolling culture, the act of provoking, insulting, or harassing individuals online for amusement or malice, has become a pervasive issue. Coupled with hate speech, it contributes to a toxic online environment with widespread societal repercussions. Understanding Trolling Culture Trolling often starts as a joke or an attempt to incite reactions. Trolls thrive on anonymity, using it to spread insults, misinformation, and hate. Over time, trolling has evolved from harmless pranks to deeply problematic behaviors, including targeted harassment and cyberbullying. High-profile figures, activists, and even ordinary users have found themselves at the receiving end of trolling campaigns, often resulting in severe mental health impacts.
