According to a study, smartphone sales would be down by 200 million units this year compared to previous

The situation in the smartphone market improved last year when the Covid-19 lockout ended and the situation improved, but it has already declined once again. Aside from smartphones, the drop in the number of PC and laptop customers might result in significant losses for manufacturers. Concerns raised by a Chinese chipmaker

During its last results call, Chinese company Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) said that smartphone sales had decreased. According to the South China Morning Post, the lockdowns would result in up to 200 million fewer smartphone devices being sold this year as a result of the restrictions. According to SMIC, given the drop in demand for consumer electronics, the market is unlikely to improve.

Covid infection has caused another lockdown.

Lockdown has been reinstated in numerous areas due to an upsurge in instances of corona virus infection. According to reports, the Shanghai shutdown might reduce production capacity by much to 5% in this quarter. "We will strive to recoup from the loss in production by the end of June with the support of our facility in Shanghai," SMIC co-CEO Zhao Haijun said on the earnings call, "but it can scarcely be compensated."

Several businesses have canceled orders.

A number of smartphone manufacturing businesses have canceled orders, according to SMIC. Aside from that, getting the essential equipment and tools to the company's new foundries takes extra time and effort. At the same time, the US prohibition, which states that no American firm may do business with it, remains a hurdle for the chipmaker.

Smartphone sales in India have also decreased.

According to a recent research by Counterpoint Research, smartphone unit sales in India fell 1% in the fourth quarter of 2018 compared to 2021. In the first quarter of this year, India acquired 3.8 crore smartphone handsets. Apple maintained its lead in the premium smartphone market, while Xiaomi maintained its lead in the total market. The OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G became the best-selling phone at this period.
