Steve Jobs wanted to make 'SIM card free iPhone'

Apple's initial iPhone is regarded as a foundation for all subsequent cellphones, which is why Steve Jobs Tech, the man behind it, is a household name. Did you know that Steve Jobs originally refused to include a slot for a SIM card in the iPhone? During the promotion of his new book 'Build: An Orthodox Guide to Making Things Worth Making,' Tony Fadel, an inventor known as the 'Father of the iPod,' made this remark.

In an interview with Joanna Stern, Fedel discussed Steve Jobs' plans for the iPhone. According to him, Steve Jobs didn't like the notion of providing the first iPhone an actual SIM card slot. There were no holes in Steve Jobs's vision for the iPhone. In the end, there are no doubts that the initial iPhone's design and functionality shook the globe.

Relying on CDMA rather than GSM for communication

Jobs intended to employ CDMA technology instead of SIM card-based GSM to connect to the cell tower for the iPhone, which he envisioned for the product. According to Fadel, he had to persuade Jobs to demonstrate that CDMA technology's acceptance is very low and that it would not be sufficient for the iPhone. However, the CDMA version of the iPhone 4 was eventually released by Apple, and it still included the SIM card slot.

Sim card slots may be the next to go, since Apple is already working to eliminate ports from its gadgets. The Apple iPhone 15 series Pro models, due in 2023, may be the last to use physical SIM card slots. These devices will not be able to accept SIM cards, and they will only be able to utilize e-SIMs instead. There is no need to insert a SIM card into the phone using e-SIM technology.


The switch to a USB Type-C port from a lightning connector

Next year will see the release of an iPhone that has a USB Type-C connection, according to one analyst. Previous rumors said that the iPhone 14 series will be the first to undergo this modification, however current sources dispute this. Apple is expected to release USB Type-C-enabled iPhones in the second half of 2023, according to a Kuo study.
