What Is D2M Technology and How It Works?

What Is D2M Technology and How It Works: Prasar Bharati, India's public service broadcaster, together with the Department of Telecommunications, are mulling on the use of a novel technology. Videos and other forms of multimedia material may be sent to mobile devices with this direct-to-mobile technology without the need of the internet. It is hypothesized that this technology might be utilized to transmit messages such as public service announcements and others. It is anticipated that D2M broadcasting would result in better usage of both broadband and spectrum.

What exactly is Direct Broadcasting to Mobile Devices?

Broadband and broadcasting are two forms of communication that have been combined to create the new technology. In the same way that signals could be delivered via the older digital TVs, signals could also be sent through mobile phones. This technology will function in the same manner, much as FM radio stations can now be heard on cellphones in this day and age. With D2M, multimedia material may also be beamed straight into users' phones, negating the need for any third-party to be involved in the process.

Wi-Fi 7 – What is it and when will it arrive?

This is why D2M is utilized.

The new technology not only enables the government to provide the required information to the people, but it also enables the government to halt the spread of rumors and false news among the people. Likewise, in the event of a crisis, the loss of life and property may be avoided by the dissemination of notifications. The advantage of this is that video messages may be shown without the need to use up internet bandwidth or wait for them to buffer.

D2M may take the place of already established platforms.

Customers stand to benefit from new technologies, which may also be used to supplant established systems. Data from the internet is used by companies that provide video on demand (VoD) and over the top (OTT) content. D2M, on the other hand, does not call for the use of the internet and may even function in remote locations. To put it another way, consumers won't have to deal with issues such as poor connection. However, there is no evidence that private businesses have really implemented it.

In addition to that, telecommunications service providers will profit from it.

The advantage of the new technology will be made accessible to telecom service providers in such a manner that they will be able to eliminate video traffic from their mobile networks as a result of its implementation. They will have access to a greater amount of mobile spectrum and so be able to provide more services. Because there won't be as much competition for bandwidth with the rest of the mobile spectrum, call completion rates will be higher, and there will be fewer dropped connections. Within the next several months, it's possible that testing may begin at private enterprises.

Apple WWDC 2022 - What to expect from the event?

It was initiated by the government.

A committee for testing purposes relating to this technology has been established by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). K. Rajaram, the Secretary of the Department of Transportation, has notified that spectrum bands are now being allocated for mobile and broadcast services. "The frequency range of 526-582 MHz has been designated as a band that is compatible with mobile and broadcast services. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting plans to transmit television signals using this frequency in the near future."

The difficulty of bringing together several mobile operator companies

The Chief Executive Officer of Prasar Bharati, Shashi Shekhar Vampati, believes that it would be a difficult task in the beginning to bring together critical stakeholders and mobile providers. Because of this, modifications to the infrastructure and laws may need to be undertaken.
